Computational Metals Additive manufacturing Competition (CMAMC 4th)
CMAMC is a problem-solving competition by computational methods. Engineers and researchers will solve the engineering problem with the software.
Metals additive manufacturing (AM) is a promising fabrication method, especially for samples with complex shapes. Although metals AM is commercially available, we still need to optimize the printing process to fabricate complex shapes for mechanical applications.
Experiments could address and solve technical issues with the metals AM to optimize the manufacturing process. But preparing an experimental sample is expensive and has some limitations. Computer simulation could support experiments in the optimization of the metals AM process. In other words, computer simulation could help engineers and researchers to solve the technical problem of metals AM.

CMAMC will give you an engineering problem in metals AM. The goal is to find the best possible solution for the problem with computer simulation. CMAMC will give the participant the software for process modeling of metals AM which is 'AM Comp Tech Software.' The Beta version of the software is available free for academic applications since October 2020. The best computational answers will be awarded. Innovation, creativity, and accuracy are the most crucial subjects in this competition.
By announcement, you can register for the competition individually or as a team. Then, you will receive a download link of the software along with a description of the problem that must be answered by simulation. You will be updated about the competition's overall details, how to submit your computational findings, how the answers will be scored, etc.
Information
This competition is FREE to register for everyone. This is an educational and academic research activity.
Registration will be opened on 20th February 2024.
Access to the download link of software: 11th March 2024.

1. What is CMAMC?
CMAMC is a computational competition in metal additive manufacturing. CMAMC is an educational and academic research activity to promote and practice computational methods in metal additive manufacturing.
2. Should I be a professional in computational materials and mechanics to participate in CMAMC 4th?
No, if you are interested in (or want to learn) computational design and metal AM, CMAMC encourages you to participate. The software looks like a virtual metal 3D printer and easy to run a simulation.
3. Who can participate?
Undergrad students, grad students, engineers, scientists, and researchers interested in metal additive manufacturing and computational engineering are encouraged to participate in CMAMC 4th. There is no limit for your major (All who are interested in computational manufacturing and engineering design with a background in physics, materials, mechanics, aerospace, computer, mathematics, etc.)!

4. Highlights:
- You can register for the competition individually or as a team.
- CMAMC will give you an engineering problem (question of the competition) in metals AM.
- CMAMC will give the participants the software for process modeling of metals AM which is 'AM Comp Tech Software.' You will receive a download link of the software (by 27th March 2023) with a description of the problem that must be solved by simulation.
- You will recieve the updates of the competition's overall details, how to use the software (AM Comp Tech software looks like a virtual metal 3D printer), how to submit your computational findings/design, how the answers will be scored, etc., by 27th March 2023.
- You need to report your design and results in the CMAMC format. Then CMAMC can score your design.
- The goal is to find the best possible solution for the problem with computer simulation.
- The best (top three) computational answers will be awarded. All participants will get their engineering design score in an official format.
- Innovation, creativity, accuracy, reproducibility, and production cost are the most crucial subjects in this competition.
- You will be informed about the scoring method by the date of registration!
- Your computational results are yours. You can publish your design/results in a journal mentioning that the simulations are done in CMAMC 4th by AM Comp Tech Software or give them to us to make your simulation public for everyone on the CMAMC webpage.
- If you want to publish your computational results in the CMAMC 4th in a peer-reviewed or preprint journal, CMAMC will help you.
